Here I invite you to make a Christmas tree from cardboard.
With this activity, you can recycle old cardboard boxes and turn them into charming Christmas decorations.
Materials:
- cardboard
- ruler
- pencil
- cutter or scissors
- paints
- glue
- stickers
- pompoms
- white snow flakes glitters
Step-by-step:
1. Using a pencil and a ruler, draw a Christmas tree on cardboard. Make a second tree identical to the first and cut out a circle (the diameter must be greater than the width of the trunk of the trees).
In the centre of one of the trees create a notch from the top to the middle of the tree. In the centre of the second tree, make a notch from the bottom to the middle.
2. Paint both sides of the tree
3. Once the trees are dry, decorate both sides of each tree with stickers, sequins, pompoms, pipe cleaner... (use whatever you like and have at home)
4. Assembling the tree by sliding the two trees into each other.
Glue them to the round base so that the tree can easily stand upright.
5. Put glue on the base to stick white glitter for a snow effect.
This activity will enable children to work on:
- Symmetry: the child will have to reproduce the same shape on either side of the tree's central axis (axial symmetry)
- Geometry: work on triangles and angles.
- Fine motor skills through painting, assembling the tree and gluing.
And on top of all that, children will have fun and upcycle!
