If you'd like to bake some cakes for the Christmas season, don't hesitate to try this Swedish recipe, which is very popular with children and adults
For us, cooking with the kids is part of our daily routine. Minus and Minusculette love it and help us a lot in making cakes, cookies, tarts and cakes. It's great because cooking is part of everyday life and the children learn a lot by doing it, both in terms of motor skills (pouring, mixing, etc.) and general knowledge (ingredients, quantities, the seasonality of fruit and vegetables, etc.).
On Saint Lucia's Day (13Dec) in Sweden, we eat saffron brioches (Lussebullar) and pepparkakor (pepper cookies, without pepper but with 4 spices: cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and ginger).
Ingredients:
- 2 dl heavy cream
- 2 dl molasses syrup
- 350 g white sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp ground cardamom
- 2 tbsp ground ginger
- 1 tbsp ground cloves
- 250 g butter
- 800 g wheat flour
- 2 tbsp baking soda
Recipe steps:
1. Mix cream, syrup and sugar in a saucepan
Add the spices and bring the mixture to the boil.
2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add pieces of butter.
Leave the butter to melt in the hot pan.
3. Pour flour and baking soda into a large bowl.
Add the spice mixture and mix to form the dough.
4. Wrap the dough.
Leave the dough at least 24 hours to allow the flavors to develop.
5. Roll the dough thinly and cut the biscuits using cookie cutters.
Put the various cookies on parchment paper.
Bake the cookies in the middle of the oven at 175°C for 6 to 8 minutes.
